Rev. Dr. Curtis L. Whitney is native of Ivor, Virginia where he was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and an honor graduate of the Southampton County Training School in the United States Armed Forces, he attended the Virginia State University in Petersburg, Virginia. Upon receiving an honorable discharge from the Army, he attended Queens College of the City University of New York, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. In May of 1986 Union Theological awarded him the masters of Divinity degree and in 1991 Drew University, Madison, New Jersey awarded him the Doctor of Ministry degree.
For nearly six years, Dr. Whitney served as Pastor of the St. John Baptist Church in Westbury, new York. Dr. Whitney served in several positions of leadership in community and religious organization in Nassau County including Chairman of Three Counties Action Program (TRICAP) and secretary of the Nassau County Black Clergy Association.
In September of 1984 Dr. Whitney received the call to become the Senior Pastor of the Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York. Prior to his call to Mt. Sinai Pastor Whitney was employed as Senior Management Specialist for the American Express Company for twenty one years. For the past twenty years Dr. Whitney with a vision of "Pastor and People Caring Enough To Share" has initiated and implemented many new community outreach program to include: Feeding the Homeless, Bible Study, Chemical Addiction programs, A Food Pantry Program, Mt. Sinai Liturgical Dance Ministry, computerization of church records. A Food Cooperative (SHARE) and a Children's church, the renovation of the main sanctuary and installation on new pews and the pavement of both church parking lots.
Dr. Whitney serves as President of the Quincy Community Services Development Corporation a sub corporation of Mt. Sinai Food Program, former President of the Mt. Sinai Baptist Credit Union, Co-founder and President of the Association of Brooklyn, Clergy for Community Development, (which was built over 350 affordable housing units fore the Brooklyn community.) President of the School of Religion of Eastern Baptist Association, member of the board of Directors for the Pratt Area Community council (PACC), Assistant Treasurer of the Empire Missionary Baptist Convention of NY and team instructor with his wife in the Family enrichment Seminar of the Special Projects Division of the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education.
He has often been called upon to establish program of Christian Education and Christian Leadership through the Untied States and has used his broad knowledge and outstanding ability to cultivate and nurture local churches and communities in the notable examples of services on the cutting edge of most movement for positive change and development throughout the City of New York.
Dr. Whitney is married to Mrs. W. Ruth Johnson Whitney of new wark, New jersey. They have two daughters: Heidi Vanessa Wilson and Monique Zinta, one son Keith (deceased) two grandchildren: Janika N. Wilson, & Matthew Curtis Wilson.
